And the nutbladders busting in air.

Hidamari Sketch season one (along with the first season's special episodes) have been licensed by Section 23 (I know, I know. It's it's still ADV). Everyone who enjoyed the show have better buy it. Comes out in January (along with the fourth volume of the manga).

Anime Rant MkII:American anime fans are a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

With word that Kadokawa Pictures USA branch shutting down, I felt that it was time once more to rant on something that probably pisses me off more than anything; anime fans who DON'T in any way support the anime they love. The particular bunch who feel that they are obligated to anime for FREE.

These people do not live in the real world. Our society is based on capitalism. That is, the exchange of money for goods to show that you do care about the product that is produced. Despite anime being 3-5x more in Japan than in the R1 market, they still go out of their way to buy anime as a sign of support and TRUE dedication. A person who just torrents anime, never ever spending anything on the anime they watch is someone who says that they're a fan, but really they are in no way a true fan of the medium.

I can be sympathetic and understand that anime DVDs while cheaper than Japanese R2 DVDs, are still more expensive than regular non anime DVDs (seriously, the only non anime DVDs I've been buying are the season sets for G1 Transformers). STILL, I draw the line at someone who thinks anime just magically grows on trees and doesn't consider that anime is a business like any other. These people invent arbitrary reasons not to buy anime on DVD (I don't like yellow subs, the fansubber translation was better, I pay my internet bill).

American companies are desperately trying to keep afloat a sinking ship. They're now forced to do everything to save money (season/half season collections, more eps/less discs, dropping dubs even I don't care for dubs anyway). People often ask "why is Japan making only moe shows?" How about because those are the shows that the Japanese are actually BUYING. They "try" to make shows that they think will appeal to the casual "OMG Cowboy Bebop is the best anime ever. I want more shows like that" crowd. And yet those people still don't support the show.

IMO I feel that the only rules for torrenting anime are

1.Brand new shows just as they airing/just aired in Japan

2.Stuff that will never be licensed in the U.S. (mostly older shows but can apply to things like Moetan and Potemayo as well).

3.Was once released in the western market but is out of print and the license has lapsed (many applies to stuff like Central Park Media's catalog).

However, if the show that you enjoyed IS licensed and available, you should then by all means purchase it. Me, I just bought all of Kannagi Crazy Shrine Maidens.
