Sorticon Story

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

I've upload a 34 paged comic I did back in late 2006. This is my own creation called "Sorticon Story". There's no dialogue and I like to think of this as an early version of the ideas I've set for it. And yes, the style is supposed to be oldschool.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it.

Great work there, man! I like your style a lot. certainly I didn't need a dialog to follow/enjoy the story though it would eb nice to know the reason behind the invasion, if any exist. My favorite part is of the mecha band! :D

Thanks!.

I haven't 100% figured out the reason for the invasion either but I do want it to involve that drawing I did of the villainess in the chair. Something about her getting revenge at the Lily tribe (see the flower symbol on the Sorticon's shoulder?).

Glad you enjoyed it.

I understand your situation. I have plenty of ideas but haven't figure out a course of action. Since I'm crazy I tend to write lyrics telling the story on a song, creating a "virtual epic album", to lay down the basics of the story and a time line (another BIG issue on my development department) to then thicken the plots with details.
As for your justifications, they sounds good enough for me! BTW, that's one mean queen you drew there! :P The bat on her wing is quite funny. A definitive 80's touch!
And, yes, I see the flower symbol. Now you got me intrigued. :D
Looking forward for more of your work!

We're pretty much same-minded so its no surprise I like your stuff. Nothing against modern mecha/anime. I just like older stuff more I don't know why.

Yeah, I can't actively like the modern mecha shows with the exception of the Go Nagai revamps (especially New Getter Robo). The little I saw of Sky Girls I did like but I really don't consider it a mecha show since they're in the backdrop (seriously, Code Geass has quite unoriginal designs). Does Simoun count as mecha? I like that show. I also like Vandread but again, the mecha weren't the focus.

I think the problem with the modern mecha shows is that I feel that the mecha don't really matter in them and thus could be interchangeable with another show like it. For the older anime, they each had they're own style to the world that was set up (even if many were designed by Kunio Okawara).

Gurren Lagann is a nice design but I don't care for the art style the show has. I also don't care for 3D CG mecha as it looks out of place with 2D characters.

I haven't seen much of the Nagai's revamps except for Mazinkaizer. As a matter of fact, I have not watched much of his other shows beyond Mazinger for one reason or another.

As for Sky Girls, yeah, I like it. Have the whole series but haven't watched every episode yet, so I can't judge properly. But so far it is very appealing to me.

Originality is the last factor I judge when watching mecha as I am more interesting in appealing designs and good execution of the story.

As I have not watched Simoun yet, I can't judge either and Vandread was a good show but mechs were just like furniture or pictures on the wall: a decoration. :(

I agree with your view regarding modern mecha shows. Mecha is not as big as it was in the 80s and they're added as "fanservice" in many cases. I like shows with good stories and characters but regret the lack of mechs when they're adverstised in conjunction of the shows (Full Metal Panic, Burst Angel, Patlabor).

Setting is an important factor on a show but this seems to be disregarded a lot as well nowadays and I am with you 100% on the 2D/3D-CGI mix most shows are going through. I love 3D/CGI but the mixture of the two kills me specially if done the way Transformers: Cybertron or Blue Submarine 6 were done. I liked how the CGI was done in Transformers: Energon and Zoids where it was blended with the 2D and make it look more natural. But that';s just my opinion.
